Prison Escort and Court Custody Officer

The purpose of this role is to provide safe, secure and humane custody of the prisoners in your care and to deliver them to their intended destinations on time.

The key responsibilities of this role are:

  • To ensure the safety of staff, prisoners and others;
  • Maintain good order and discipline;
  • Prevent escapes including the correct application of security measures such as handcuffs;
  • To attend to prisoners wellbeing;
  • To attend to the security of any prisoners property in their possession;
  • To prevent or report on the commission of any offence committed by a prisoner whilst in their custody;
  • To ensure all prisoners are escorted to their destination in a timely and humane manner ensuring that the correct documentation accompanies them;
  • Correctly complete all FIRST documentation as per the specified polices and procedures;
  • To ensure the prisoner is supervised during their court appearance and that they have access if required to their legal representative;
  • To ensure that all prisoners are supervised whilst not secured in a cell and are supervised at all times during visits from authorised persons;
  • To prevent or report on the damage caused to any item that is not the prisoners own;
  • To ensure PECCS staff adhere to policies and procedures and are carrying out their duties in accordance with contractual obligations.

These contracts may include Electronic Monitoring Services, Alarm Responses, scheduled patrol visits and bank ATM checks.

Officers must have a full NZ drivers’ licence.
