Labour Weekend Security

Heading away this long weekend? FIRST Security shares their top tips to help keep your properties and businesses safe over Labour Weekend

This weekend, we know a lot of Kiwis are going to be travelling up and down the country to make the most of the Labour Day public holiday and the sunshine. But before you pack up the car and head out on the road, FIRST Security are proud to share their top five security tips to deter any criminal activity over the long weekend. We highly recommend you tick off each one to keep your properties, businesses, and assets safe, to ensure a stress-free return.

Check your alarms

While this may be a no-brainer, it’s amazing what a simple alarm check can do to safeguard your properties and businesses in the event of a break-in or fire. Before heading out, be sure to test smoke and security alarms to ensure they are functioning properly. It may just be the one thing that could prevent serious damage or loss of possessions.

Lock all your doors and windows

For most people this is general practice whenever leaving your business or property, however it’s an important one to tick off the list as it can be easy to forget. You should check each room (including the garage) to ensure all doors and windows are securely locked before heading out on your roadie.

Download our Responda app

Here at FIRST Security, we find that the ultimate peace of mind before heading off on a holiday is knowing there is security available 24/7. That’s why we recommend downloading the Responda app ahead of time, so if you notice any suspicious activity or just want to check in on the house, you know you will have a trusted security officer there in minutes at just the click of a button. Inform a trusted neighbour

It is a good idea to lean on the relationships of your community when you are heading on holiday – from feeding the cats to keeping an eye on things while you are away, neighbours are a great option to improving the security of your home or business.

Keep your plans private

Keeping your travel plans to yourself, particularly when it comes to social media, is an important step in the security checklist. You never know who could be looking on your profile and see it as an opportunity to break into your property. It is best to wait until you return home to post those sun-filled holiday snaps!
